Can I wash the jacquard fabric in the washing machine?

Jacquard fabrics are easily recognizable by their intricate patterns, dense texture, and “rich” appearance. But washing the jacquard, as well as simpler fabrics, has to be done regularly. When wet, such a cloth becomes coarser, heavier, but do not worry: the jacquard can be washed even in a washing machine. In order for the material not to lose its original appearance, some rules must be adhered to during the washing process.

A bit about the composition of jacquard

The homeland of the fabric is France. It was there that at the beginning of the 19th century, the weaver Joseph Jacquard invented the machine for the manufacture of dense patterned fabric. The canvas is made from different types of threads. In most cases, there are about 10, but complex patterns require the use of more than 100 threads of different textures and shades. This leads to the high cost of the material.

A special type of weaving - jacquard - makes the material very strong regardless of the type of fibers used, but you should know their composition for proper care.

In production, several types of jacquard are used:

  • Jacquard satin - fabric mainly of natural origin. At the heart is high-quality cotton fiber. Fabrics made of it are particularly durable, but under the influence of direct sunlight they become less wear-resistant. Fibers are sensitive to high temperatures (about 150 ° C) and deteriorate from exposure to hot objects. Recommended processing temperature - up to 130 ˚С. Jacquard-satin is often used for sewing bed linen of the elite class. It differs in silkiness, durability and tolerates washing well. After 200 washings, the fabric will begin to fade slightly. In home use, it is satin-jacquard that is the most common fabric.
  • Jacquard atlas - a brilliant canvas, based on which silk threads have traditionally been used. Subsequently, no less high-quality material was obtained from synthetic fibers. Satin jacquard is most often used for sewing curtains, bedspreads, covers for furniture made in the Baroque style.
  • Stretch jacquard - It is obtained by adding easily extensible threads to the canvas - elastane, spandex, lycra. Clothing made of such fabric sits well on the figure, differs in original patterns. Under the influence of high temperature, elasticity may decrease, so washing in hot water is unacceptable.
  • Jacquard silk - a more expensive canvas, characterized by a glossy surface. Often often made underwear class "luxury", exquisite clothes.
  • Jacquard organza - Thin, translucent printed fabric. Although the combination of jacquard weaving and organza is quite rare, products from this fabric look very elegant and require appropriate care. Their washing in the automatic machine is not prohibited, but only in delicate mode.

Gentle care is considered universal for all types of jacquard.

Washing rules

You can wash the satin-jacquard, like other types of linen, with your hands or in the washing machine. In this case, it is necessary to take into account some nuances.

Water temperature

Some types of fibers (satin, stretch) do not tolerate the effects of high temperatures, so the optimum water temperature for washing jacquard is about 30 ° C.

If the product has a label indicating the rules of care, it will have an image on it:

What tool to choose?

The worst choice is ordinary laundry detergent. In barely warm water, the granules dissolve poorly and clog between the fibers of the fabric. Chemicals negatively affect the paint, as a result, the canvas quickly fades.In addition, many jacquard products intended for frequent use (covers, upholstery) are impregnated with special substances to increase strength. The powder spoils the impregnation, and the fabric wears out faster.

All this can be avoided by replacing the powder with a washing gel.

It is strictly forbidden to use products containing chlorine. This is indicated by the designation on the label:
Icon Chlorine-free bleaches can be used.

- bleach without chlorine can be used;

No Bleach Icon

- bleaching is prohibited.

Washing mode

On the typewriter, the washing mode can be marked with “dots”. For jacquard you should choose a single-point mode. This means “delicate”, “hand” washing at temperatures up to 30 ° C.

Spin and Dry

In case of violation of the drying rules, the jacquard can be deformed, lose color, therefore, the rules should be observed:

  • abandon the automatic extraction of the tissue - just set the "drain" and pull out the product;
  • do not wring out manually, do not twist (such actions will damage the structure of the fabric);
  • spread out on a horizontal surface, spreading the product with your hands;
  • Avoid direct sunlight on the fabric.

The signs indicate this on the label:

- dry on a horizontal surface;

Dry In Shadow Icon

- dry in the shade.

Ironing

After washing, ironing allows you to give a presentable appearance to the product. Jacquard must be ironed on the wrong side. The temperature regime is minimal, which corresponds to one point on the iron.

Steaming is possible, but not with respect to fabric with elastic fibers.

Immediately after the first wash, a pile forms on the fabric, which can be noticeable only with an increase. From this, the fabric does not get worse, but acquires a pleasant softness, which is noted by the owners of sensitive skin.

Jacquard is a durable fabric, but with improper care it loses its properties. If you observe the correct washing regime, magnificent jacquard products will not lose their beauty and will delight for many years.
