Common situation? So our selection is created for you. Below are collected proven methods that allow you to remove greasy stains from wallpaper without much time and effort.

Wallpaper stain removal

Types of wallpaper and cleaning features

Before you begin, you need to find out what material the wallpaper consists of. Do not apply the same cleaning agents to different types of coatings.

There are several varieties of wallpaper. The most popular of them:

  • paper (ordinary and embossed);
  • vinyl;
  • non-woven.

Paper wallpapers are gentle and do not tolerate moisture. They need to be treated very carefully. Stains on vinyl and non-woven wallpaper are easier to handle - the material from which they are made has water-repellent properties.

After wet cleaning, the treated area cannot be artificially dried. Do not use a hair dryer and do not ventilate the room, otherwise stains or yellow circular stripes will remain on the wallpaper. Let the coating dry on its own.

Dishwashing liquid

Grease on vinyl and non-woven

Good news for desperate housewives: due to the special structure of non-woven and vinyl wallpapers, some detergents can be used to clean them.

There are many ways to remove greasy stains from surfaces. They show different efficiencies, but are tested in practice.

  • Detergents.

If the stain is not rubbed off with a damp cloth, you need to use a special solution. To prepare it, pour the dishwashing detergent into warm water. After wetting the rag a little, gently rub the greasy area.

Water-repellent wallpaper is more durable than paper, but also does not suffer a strong impact: the structure may be damaged.

Do not use concentrate - stains will remain. The tool is better to dilute.

  • A piece of chalk.

This removal method is considered practically safe. Chalk consists of components that can absorb the fat mixture without harming the surface. Rub a small piece of chalk into powder and apply to the wallpaper, smoothing and rubbing lightly with your fingers. Do not touch the dusted area for 3 hours. After the time has passed, brush off the chalk with a brush, and try to wash off any remaining dirt with a damp cloth.

To make the chalk work faster, wrap the powder in a cotton cloth, attach to the greasy area, iron with an iron.

  • Starch.

The properties of starch and chalk are almost the same. To apply the product on the wall, you must first dilute it - add the powder to water until gruel forms. Apply the finished mixture in a thin layer to the wall, carefully leveling it with your fingers. Leave for a day. Remove any residue with a soft, dry brush. The same properties have baby powder, diluted with water.

  • Soda solution.

To prepare the mixture, pour 3 parts of water into a bowl and add 1 part of baking soda. Moisten a soft cloth in the solution, gently wipe the contaminated area. Continue to work until the stain dissolves.

Soda should be used with caution, as it has whitening properties. Therefore, it can not be used when cleaning dark wallpaper.

  • Laundry soap.

This tool is considered universal for removing any contaminants.Soap a sponge and apply the resulting foam on the stain. Then rinse the sponge, collect the remaining foam. Can be wiped with a damp cloth.

  • Dentifrice.

Dilute the product in water until a thick slurry forms. Then apply the mixture to the dirt and leave. A day later, it absorbs an oil stain. Shake off the powder with a soft brush.

  • Removal with gasoline.

Old stains in the kitchen often cannot be completely removed. But the clean gasoline purchased in the store handles them well. Cut a piece of thick cloth and pour some gasoline on one side. Attach it to the stain and hold for about 10-15 minutes. Fatty contaminants slowly dissolve and go on a rag. Repeat the procedure if necessary. You can try to remove the remains with an eraser. A mixture of gasoline with tooth powder is also effective.

Alcohol, acetone, and hydrogen peroxide have similar properties. They are also applied to a rag and applied to the site of contamination. With such tools you need to work very carefully. Wash grease stains on time with a dry cloth.

Use only a clean, light cloth when cleaning surfaces. Colored material can fade and leave bright traces on the wallpaper.

Bread crumb

Removing stains from paper wallpapers

Processing paper wallpaper with an aqueous solution can cause them to get wet, the appearance of holes on the surface, and damage to patterns. If you are not sure about the quality of the wallpaper, use minimal amounts of liquid when cleaning. On thin paper wallpapers, it is better to carry out dry processing.

There are 3 gentle methods that are preferable to use to get rid of stains on paper wallpapers:

  • Bread. Take white bread, roll a small ball out of it. Carefully attach it to the place of contamination, hold it a little and remove. If the stain remains, repeat the procedure until it completely disappears.
  • Iron. This method has also proven itself on the positive side. Take a paper towel or piece of toilet paper, attach it to the wall. Heat the iron to a temperature that your hand can tolerate (about 40 ° C). Without touching the exposed areas of the wallpaper, swipe the paper several times with an iron. Remove the cloth, attach a new one. The stain should remain on paper.

When the iron overheats or with a long ironing, the napkin may stick to the wallpaper. Do not pull it, otherwise a hole will appear on the wallpaper. Gently moisten with water and remove.

  • Eraser. Gently rub the coating with an eraser. If it does not help, use a melamine sponge. It should work very carefully. If there is no result, it is better not to continue, otherwise the picture will be erased.

If all efforts to remove grease have not been successful, colored crayons will help. Pick them according to the color of the wallpaper and paint over the spots.

The main rule during cleaning is testing the product used. Put it in a small amount on the wallpaper in an inconspicuous place. For example, behind a bed or wardrobe.

The funds presented are not expensive and can be found in almost every home. It is important to understand that it is much easier to remove fresh stains from wallpaper than old ones. Over time, they absorb dust. Therefore, the faster after the appearance of the defect, you begin to eliminate it, the higher the chances of returning the walls to their original appearance.
