How to beautifully paint eggs with a cloth for Easter

On the eve of Easter, my family traditionally comes the time to experiment in preparing the main symbol of the holiday - colored eggs. This time, I liked the original way of staining - with fabric and vinegar. I note that not all colored fabrics are suitable, even if they fade during washing. Uniquely successful in creating Easter masterpieces will be the use of one hundred percent natural silk, and for this you should carefully study the labels on the things used. You can put on beautiful, but old scarves, shirts or ties with fancy patterns. You can search for a silk item in a second-hand.

How to paint eggs with flaps?

Empirically, it turned out that for painting Easter eggs in colored fabric, it takes no more time than it takes for traditional staining. However, the result in this case is really able to surprise.

So, you need:

  • raw, white eggs;
  • silk flaps;
  • patches of plain cotton (possibly knitted) fabric;
  • threads or elastic bands;
  • scissors;
  • vinegar;
  • water;
  • pan.

Step 1. Cook the eggs.

Boiled eggs on pieces of silk

Before boiling eggs, it is better to wash them with soap to evenly distribute the color and leave them to lie at room temperature for a while. The latter will protect the shell from cracking. By the way, during cooking, you can add a couple of tablespoons of salt to the water.

Step 2. We wrap silk flaps.

Printed Silk Wrapped Egg

The silk product must be cut into rags about 18 x 18 cm in size. This is enough to completely wrap the egg. Each piece of colored cloth should be moistened with water to make it easier to wrap eggs. The front side of the fabric with a bright pattern should fit snugly against the shell, then the pattern will be more distinct and brighter. For this, it is important to smooth out air bubbles, folds and creases. However, blurry swirls also look interesting - they make the decor even more original and beautiful. You need to fix silk with threads or elastic bands.

Step 3. Protect with pieces of white cloth.

Silk and white cotton eggs

A plain (preferably white) fabric — for example, an old T-shirt or cotton pillowcase — also needs to be cut into pieces of the same size as silk, and wrap eggs over colored patches of them. Fasten the fabric with a strong thread or elastic. The result should be white bags.

Step 4. Fast and beautiful.

Eggs wrapped in cloth

The eggs wrapped in two layers of fabric must be carefully folded into a pot of cold water. Add 9% table vinegar - about 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water.

Step 5. Painting with original patterns.

Cook eggs for 15 to 30 minutes. After cooking, remove the pan from the heat, remove the eggs from the water, dry and cool them. To remove the fabric from the cooled dye - and voila! The result was a delicate graceful drawing with bizarre patterns that only a professional artist can create! For shine, you can grease the eggs with vegetable oil. On Easter Day, such an egg - beautiful and unique - will be a great handmade gift!

The nuances of the method

Tips for those wishing to experiment with the types of colored fabric:

  • For dyeing eggs, you can take not only natural silk, but also other fabrics seen in the ability to shed during washing.
  • To determine whether the fabric sheds or not, it should be moistened in warm water, squeezed and spread on a piece of gauze. Prints of paint after drying indicate that such a fabric is most likely suitable.
  • It should be noted that in the case of an experiment, the result can be unpredictable: it is probably impossible to say how the Chinese shawl will behave of unknown origin.
  • You can even dye your eggs with a Pavlovoposadsky woolen shawl.
  • It is better to take a colored cloth thin, because it is easier to wrap an egg.
  • The same flap of colored fabric can be used repeatedly.

It’s worth learning how to dye eggs in fabrics for Easter, if only because this process is always intriguing - because until you open the finished dye, you don’t know how the pattern turned out. During this lesson, you can gather the whole family in the kitchen and wonder with interest who will get the most beautiful Easter egg. And then collect a whole basket of "silk" masterpieces, photograph them for a family album and distribute the next day to those who are especially dear to you and your loved ones.
