The mood color is yellow! Coloring Easter Eggs with Turmeric

Turmeric is not only an inexpensive seasoning for many dishes that can be found in any store, but also a natural food coloring. On the eve of Easter, it's time to remember: to get sunny yellow dye, you can paint the eggs with turmeric - quickly, easily and safely.

Getting ready for painting

Turmeric has a fairly persistent pigment. So use an old stainless steel pan. The enamel coating will be mercilessly painted.

We recommend painting eggs with gloves.

Before you dip the eggs in a hot coloring solution, you need to warm them up - first remove them from the refrigerator and leave them on the table at room temperature for half an hour or an hour. To speed up the process, you can dip the eggs in warm, but not hot water.

It is recommended to add a tablespoon of salt to the water. This will keep the protein inside the shell in case of cracks.

To paint evenly distributed on the surface of the egg, pre-degrease the shell with vinegar, alcohol or just wash it thoroughly with soap and water.

Eggs and Turmeric

We will need:

  • white chicken eggs - 10 pieces;
  • water - 1 liter;
  • ground turmeric - 1 sachet (20 grams = about 3 tablespoons);
  • vinegar - 1 tablespoon (optional).

Cooking “golden” dye

    1. Pour cold water into the pan and sprinkle spices, stirring constantly. Add vinegar to fix the color.

Turmeric Broth

    1. Bring to a boil. Let it brew for an hour.

Turmeric Pot

    1. Gently using a spoon, dip the raw fat-free eggs into the bowl so that the liquid covers them completely.

White egg before turmeric dyeing

    1. Simmer on low heat until cooked for 10-15 minutes.

Egg taken out of turmeric broth

    1. Remove the eggs from the staining solution with a spoon or slotted spoon, rinse with cold water and dry them on a paper towel. No need to wipe. The pigment has covered the shell with a thin layer, and it will easily fly off when carelessly pressed with a napkin or scratched. Paints should dry naturally. To get a more saturated yellow-brick color, leave the eggs in the liquid for a longer time, up to a day, placing the pan in a cold place.

Painted egg under running water

  1. Wipe the dyes with vegetable oil, twisting them in the palms of your hands.

Secrets of Mastery

Use bright orange spices rather than pale yellow. Therefore, it is recommended to purchase them by weight, where the goods are presented, as they say, by a person!

Do not turn the eggs during the cooking process with a spoon - this will leave ugly prints. It is better to gently stir the water.

To dye brown, not white, eggs, double the amount of coloring powder.

Be careful with the seasoning, as it is able to color everything it comes into contact with. Cover the work surface with paper, oilcloth or newspapers.

You can colorize the eggs even more interesting by adding an ornament or pattern on the shell. To do this, first apply a stencil (it can be a pattern cut out of insulating tape or a leaf of parsley), pack the future paint in a nylon stocking and tighten it tightly with threads. Boil the resulting bags in diluted powder. Protected areas will retain their natural color, and the egg itself will turn yellow.
