Why can’t you put foil in the microwave, and semi-finished products in the foil can

The general rule is that foil, metal utensils and plates or cups with a metallized rim cannot be placed. And who, out of forgetfulness, acted differently, saw sparks of electric discharge and dangerous crackle. Why are semi-finished products for microwave in foil containers sold?

Why are sparks flying?

Foil, steel, rims on dishes - all these materials perfectly conduct current while blocking microwave waves, taking all their power onto themselves.

And if only the distance between the particles of paint or dishes and the metal walls of the microwave chamber allows, a microscopic or quite visible electric arc is created - a short circuit between closely spaced contacts. This powerful discharge is accompanied by a bang. And then there is often an explosion.

Can I put the foil in the microwave?

The answer is possible, but so as to minimize electrical conductivity. Need more density and uniformity of the material, as well as perforation.

How it works:

  • multiple holes let steam out - the dish heats up better, and the dishes do not heat up;
  • the open top performs the same task - the cover must be removed;
  • there should be at least 2 cm between the walls and the dishes so that no arcs form;
  • the volume and height of the dishes should be small (recommended not higher than 2.5 cm);
  • You cannot stick two foil or metal containers into the microwave - too close, and the discharge arc will break through.

prefabricated foil

purityis.decorexpro.com/en/ recommends using only dishes and packaging that bear a sign that allows it to be heated in microwave.

Tip
The foil for microwaves must be heat-resistant, otherwise it will melt and poison the food interspersed with aluminum.

All the listed parameters correspond to containers and plates made of foil film or paper - they sell (according to the American model) semi-finished products for heating or cooking using microwave waves. However, this dishware is strictly disposable, and you cannot leave it “next time”. Sold in hardware stores and foil in rolls, suitable for microwave ovens - the packaging is marked accordingly.

If in doubt

If you are not sure, then you should not experiment. A whole series of experiments shows that the explosion of the foil in the microwave ends with a serious breakdown. Repairing such a malfunction is so expensive that it is easier to buy a new device.

If possible, it is worth shifting the product into the dishes, which is not in doubt. If this is not feasible (for example, semi-finished climbing simply falls apart when you try to move it), you need to use the convection or grill mode, turning off the microwaves.

Putting the dishes in the foil in the microwave

In older models, the microwave mode is the only one - only safe dishes should be put in them.

Important
Under no circumstances should you send metal clips, clips, needles, etc. to the microwave cabinet. They will inevitably cause sparks.

How to check if the dishes are suitable for microwave:

  1. Pour cold water into a faceted glass and place in the oven, closer to the edge of the turntable.
  2. Strictly place a test container in the center of the glass tray.
  3. Turn on at full power for 40 seconds.
  4. The dishes should remain cold, and the water should become warm.

Dishes for microwave

If the container is heated, it means that it screens the microwaves, instead of freely passing to the products. In such a food will bask more slowly and unevenly. For example, coffee in an improper cup will not brew. Meanwhile, a microwave friendly (suitable for microwave) cup is much cheaper to buy than an electric coffee maker or coffee machine.

Experimenting with your technique is expensive. Only place cookware on the appliance that has the microwave friendly permission mark on it so that the appliance lasts longer and the food warms up better.
