Are there any reliable ways to clean the primer from the glass?

If during the work it was not possible to protect the windows, you need to know how and how to wash the primer from the glass surface. The same problem occurs if the primer is on the tile. There are primer compounds that can be washed off with water, and there are those for which it is problematic to choose a removal agent. Let's start from easy to hard.

Window glass wash

Primer for wallpaper

Often before wallpapering, the wall is pre-impregnated with wallpaper glue. Such a primer is washed off easily, especially if it is fresh. It can be wiped off with a damp rag. If the glue is dry, you should not tear it off with abrasives. It is enough to wet the spots on the glass and wait for the swelling of the paste. After that, it will be removed with any wet sponge.

This look is also easily removed from glass and tile. Stains need to be wetted, and after a while they will wash off well without the use of chemicals. The exception is those compounds in which dye is added. In this case, it is necessary to wipe the pollution with White Spirit.

Tip

If the primer is very dry, it must be soaked with hot water. For floor tiles, stir up boiling water.

Concrete contact

Adhesion primers

Impregnation compounds that improve the adhesion of the base and finishing materials, such as Concrete Contact, are very difficult to remove after drying. In fact, they can only be removed mechanically. It is best to use a blade to clean the glass. Holding it at an angle of 40-45 º, you need to try to pick up the edge of the soil. After removing the strip / flap, repeat the procedure.

To facilitate the process, organic solvents such as P 646 can be used. Ethers are present there that contribute to the swelling of the primer and the loss of its adhesive properties.

Cleaning is carried out in this way:

  1. wet the rags with solvent and apply to the stain;
  2. wait 30-60 minutes;
  3. remove rags - a jelly-like film should form under it;
  4. pry off the film with a blade and remove;
  5. wipe the glass with soapy water and then with clean water.

Primer for cleaning glass from primer

Phenolic primer

Phenol-based primers are used to impregnate wood. If it hit the surface of ceramic tiles or glass and after that more than 17 hours have passed, then you will have to use solvents. To get rid of xylene, solvent or a mixture of solvent with "White Spirit" (in equal proportions) is suitable.

Cleaning is carried out as follows.

  1. Solvent is applied to the contaminated area.
  2. After 2-5 minutes, wipe with an abrasive sponge.
  3. Repeat wetting with the solution and again wipe with a sponge.
  4. Washed glass with water.

To wipe off fresh contamination, just wipe it with a rag or damp sponge.

Primer and Rollers

Universal method

If the type of primer is unknown, but there is a residue, the contamination problem can be easily solved. It is enough to moisten the spots with the same soil, wait a while, and then wipe them with a rag or, if necessary, an abrasive sponge. This action is explained by the fact that the composition of the soil always has a solvent. However, if too much time has passed - more than two weeks, then this method may not work. Typically, complete polymerization takes place during this time, and potent agents are required to remove stains.

Boiling water

Home Remedies for Stains

If there is no primer left, and its type is unknown, the question of how to wash the primer remains relevant. In this case, you will have to try different methods and tools.

From improvised means:

  • boiling water;
  • soda;
  • vinegar.

Boiling water is used to clean floor tiles with a porous structure. In this case, you need to water the stain and wipe it with a rag after a few minutes. Vinegar is used for glass and acid resistant tiles. It is applied undiluted on a dried primer, and after 10-15 minutes it is washed off. This treatment has to be repeated several times.

Soda for glass, and for tiles. The stain is moistened and sprinkled with soda so that gruel is formed. A few minutes after application, you need to wipe the resulting gruel with a sponge. In this case, soda acts both as an alkaline solvent and as a mechanical abrasive.

Acid solvent

Chemicals

If none of the above helps get rid of primer stains, use "heavy artillery" - household chemicals to clean problematic contaminants. Any means can be suitable for window panes; it is better to choose an alkaline-based cleaner for tiles.

List of cleaners:

  • Dopomat;
  • Hodrupa A;
  • ATLAS SZOR;
  • Veroclean;
  • Corvett;

Powerfix is an acidic product; all others are alkaline. Corvett can be used to remove stains from porcelain stoneware tiles. All these tools are professional and highly concentrated, so before using them you need to breed them according to the instructions. To get rid of stains, choose the concentration “for deep cleaning”. After application, the surface must be thoroughly washed with water.

Steam cleaner

Steam cleaner

Most primer stains can be removed with a steam cleaner. It is well suited for cleaning tiles with a porous structure, but it cannot be used for window panes. Glass will heat up unevenly and burst. Glazed tiles can also behave unpredictably, so the use of such a technique is limited to floor tiles.

The cleaning method consists of two actions that are performed simultaneously.

  1. Aim a stream of steam at the spot.
  2. With a hard-bristled brush, remove dirt.

Before using the steam cleaner, the stain can be pre-treated with a solvent. In this case, mechanical cleaning will be minimized and the surface of the tile will not suffer from excessive friction.

Film for protection of windows and doors during repair

Prevention

The simple truth - to prevent is easier than to eliminate - for some reason, it is well remembered only after several hours of rubbing the stain by all possible means. But, really, if you take care in advance and close the tile and windows with a film, then you do not have to remove the tightly soiled pollution.

Use shrink wrap to protect windows. It has a minimum thickness and will not “pick up” sunlight. It is attached directly to the glass, and around the perimeter is fixed with masking tape. For tiles, any water-repellent material is suitable. Only thick polyethylene is used on the floor, and cardboard must also be laid on top of it. Such simple measures will allow repair work without consequences - frozen cement on the windows, traces of glue, paint or primer.

    It seems that I found a remedy against this disaster - a melamine sponge plus alcohol. I tested an hour after my husband primed the walls, splashing the doors. Doors are ordinary, interior doors - laminated paper and glass. Glass surrendered quickly because I mercilessly rubbed it with a sponge moistened with alcohol. The creak was heard atrocious! But it was wiped off with a cavity. The "tree" had to be handled more carefully, but the result is also good.I’ll try again tomorrow if stains still appear. Instead of alcohol, you can probably try other fluids. But it is not known how the sponge will react.
