How to clean a fur coat from a muton at home?

A coat of muton with proper care will serve you for many years. Due to various circumstances, it is not always possible to send the product to dry cleaning, so you have to look for the answer to the question: how to clean a mouton coat at home? In most cases, cleaning does not require serious expenses and is not particularly difficult.

Get rid of dust

Even if there is no visible pollution on the outer clothing, it is recommended to clean it from dust before summer storage or after a long “rest”. Hang the coat on your shoulders and cover with a damp sheet. Then gently knock it out like a rug is knocked out. You will see that all dust settles on a damp cloth.

You can also clean the fur coat with a vacuum cleaner with a small nozzle. First make sure that the nozzle is clean, otherwise dirt particles may remain on the surface of the fur coat. To get rid of dust, just walk through the fur with a vacuum cleaner at minimum power.

Bran

Stain and dirt removal

One of the most affordable cleaning products is a soap solution. To prepare it, dissolve in 1 liter of warm water a tablespoon of the most common washing powder, shampoo or baby soap. Moisten a sponge in this solution and thoroughly wipe the contaminated area, and, if necessary, the entire fur coat. To rinse off the foam from the fur, walk over it with a brush dipped in cold water.

Tip

Do not forget that you have to clean the painted sheepskin. In order not to spoil it, choose a product without bleach (unless it is a question of cleaning a white fur coat).

If greasy stains appear on things, remove them using ordinary bran, which is sold in pharmacies and supermarkets. Put the bran in a pan and, stirring them occasionally, slightly heat. Lay the fur coat on a flat surface and pour warm bran on it. Then just shake off the bran and go over the fur with a soft brush.

A solution of water, ammonia (10%) and table vinegar will help remove greasy stains. Mix the components in equal proportions, soak a cotton pad in the resulting solution and treat the contaminated areas. Then wipe the fur coat with a damp cloth and dry it.

Tip

In addition to folk methods, there is a more modern one. Just use a bottle of suede, nubuck or velor cleaner.

Corn starch

Cleaning a light coat

To clean a light coat and get rid of yellowness, use hydrogen peroxide. Mix water and peroxide in a 2: 1 ratio. Dampen a soft cloth in the solution and wipe the fur coat. Then let the product dry.

You can also get rid of stains with potato or corn starch and a soap solution. Prepare a soap solution and pour it into the spray bottle. Add potato starch to the stain and sprinkle it with soapy water. Using your hands or a sponge, spread the starch over the surface and let the coat dry a little. Remove starch with a vacuum cleaner or a soft brush.

A more risky, but no less effective way is to clean the fur coat with starch and pure gasoline. Mix the ingredients in equal proportions to make a slurry. Apply the mixture to the stain and leave to dry. Then, using a brush or vacuum cleaner, remove the starch and hang the coat in fresh air or in a ventilated area to get rid of the smell of gasoline.

Useful Tips

  • Before cleaning, make sure that the composition used does not spoil the color of the product. To do this, apply fluid to an inconspicuous area and see how the fur “reacts” to it.
  • Drying the product of their fur is better on the shoulders at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heating devices.
  • Do not use a dryer for drying, otherwise you risk spoiling the product.
  • After cleaning and drying the fur coat, carefully comb the pile with a comb with rare and blunt teeth.
  • If there is no visible pollution on things, it does not need frequent cleaning. Enough once a year, before shipping to summer storage.
  • If it is necessary to wash the lining, it will have to be torn off, and sew again after washing.

Some spots, for example, from chocolate, wine and blood, are classified as difficult to remove. In such cases, it is better to contact dry cleaning. Professionals know how to get rid of complex stains without harming things.

This is all interesting, of course, but not a single word about the spots of fire, how to get rid of them and how to polish the mouton for the original shine?
