Is it possible to wash latex paint - or stains can not be avoided?

Do not be afraid to wash the latex paint. It is quite durable. The surfaces on which it was applied can be treated with water, detergents and a soft-brushed brush. Since this type of coloring composition is not afraid of aggressive chemistry, it is used where cleaning is carried out much more often and more thoroughly than usual: in hospitals, educational institutions, etc.

Latex paint is different. The composition of the substance also determines where it can be used. Some species tolerate the sun, others do not. The same applies to moisture resistance and other parameters.

Pros and cons of latex paint

What are the benefits of this type of paint?

  • This is a wear-resistant coating that will last longer than traditional types of paints.
  • Such compositions have a saturated color and brightness for a long time.
  • Many varieties of latex paint almost do not fade and do not collapse under the influence of sunlight.
  • Painted spots are not sticky, due to the fact that there are almost no additional additives in the composition.
  • Paint is easy to remove from clothing.
  • Latex paint is harmless, does not emit toxic substances into the air and does not have an unpleasant odor. Its solvent is ordinary water.
  • The coating is moisture resistant.
  • Bubbles do not appear on the painted space, as the paint passes air well.
  • The painted surface dries quickly - in about half an hour.
  • This type of paint can create both a glossy surface and a matte finish.

She also has disadvantages:

  • So that the fungus does not start in the room, it is necessary to pre-treat the wall with a primer.
  • It is worse than other types of paint tolerates cold, which is why it is not very suitable for poorly heated rooms. Therefore, painting it, for example, is not the best option.
  • It is not so easy to apply paint: it is not necessary to put pressure on the brush too much, but not too weakly.

Types of latex paint

Latex paints can be divided into varieties on several grounds.

Composition

Five subtypes are distinguished here:

  • Water emulsion. It is inexpensive and does not smell at all. It is perfectly washed off from hands, clothes and tools, but does not tolerate wet rooms very well. You need to wash it as carefully as possible, in no case using toxic household chemicals, otherwise the coating will be damaged and get an unpleasant odor.
  • Styrene butadiene. Much more moisture resistant. At the same time, it is not suitable for rooms where sunlight falls all the time. In the sun, it simply burns out. Therefore, this variety is best suited for pantries or bathrooms.
  • Acrylic silicone. It is not afraid of either light or moisture, therefore it is excellent for painting the facade.
  • Acrylic Recently, it has become much more popular, despite the fact that it is quite expensive. That's because painting the surface of the same area will require much less than in the case of cheaper analogues.

How to clean latex coated surfaces?

It is recommended not to use abrasive cleaners. Brushes and rags also should not be hard (especially in the case of water-based paint).

It is better to use a mild cleaner or a mild soap solution:

  1. Add the product to warm water.
  2. Moisten a sponge or rag, squeeze well and gently wipe the painted surface. It is especially important to clean places that you often touch — such as door handles. Wipe clean smoothly and easily.
  3. Next, you need to use another sponge. Dampen it in clean water and wipe the wall so that no cleaning agent is left on it. Be careful - do not touch outlets and other places to which electric current is connected.

To deal with stains that are very difficult to remove, a mixture made from cold water and soda will help (the ratio of ingredients is one to one). Put it on a stain, leave it for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

It is easy to clean the painted wood with alcohol.

Walls coated with latex paint are completely safe to clean. However, it is better to understand which variety was used. So you definitely will not damage the coating by choosing the wrong detergent or brush too hard.
